Ted’s eyes go wide in surprise, but Bill holds his gaze. “Isn’t there?”
“Shut up, Ted.”
“Seriously, dude.” Ted says, and he looks so genuine Bill almost breaks. Almost.
“It’s pretty simple.” Bill says, finally standing up and putting himself at (almost) eye level with Ted. He tries to smile but he’s pretty sure it just looks sad, so he drops it. “I don't have feelings for you, and you don't have feelings for me. Sometimes things just happen, and then you can forget about them afterwards.”

Thorin did not know why he was doing this. There was nothing he needed to say to the hobbit at the end of his journey, and yet from the moment he’d left, Thorin pondered him fiercely, desired to see him well and happy again as though the hobbit had stolen his own personage and taken it all the way back to the Shire, under Thorin’s nose itself.
No turning back. Thorin did not know why he was doing this, but he knew he needed to do it.
