After the summer at the cottage, Shane goes back to Montreal tired, off, and nauseous in a way he refuses to think too hard about. They f*cked every day for weeks, after all, it's not impossible. Just highly, statistically unlikely.

Summary
Alina was drawing an enormous purple dog.
"Are there a lot of purple dogs around here?" Ilya asked.
Alina didn't look up from the drawing.
"No."
"Do you like purple?"
Once again, a one-word answer. "It's ok."
"I see. So the dog is ok."
"It's not a dog. It's a wolf."
"A purple wolf? I've never seen one."
The little girl flushed with irritation. "The brown one is dead."
"Lucky me. Otherwise I never would have seen my new favorite animal. The purple wolf."
Alina didn't answer.
"What do purple wolves eat? Yellow sheep?" Ilya asked.
The little girl looked up from the page and fixed Ilya with an intensity that made him uncomfortable. "Where is my brother?"Ilya Rozanov gets a call from Russia: his brother has been arrested, and Ilya is the legal guardian of two children: his six-year-old niece Alina, and a baby nephew, Ivan, he didn't know existed. Alina riprese a disegnare un enorme cane color viola.
“Ci sono tanti cani viola, qui?”, chiese Ilya.
Alina non distolse gli occhi dal disegno, mentre disse semplicemente: “No.”
“Ti piace, il viola?”
Ancora una volta, una risposta a monosillabi. “È ok.”
Ilya annuì serio.
“Capisco. Quindi il cane è ok.”
“Non è un cane. È un lupo.”
“Un lupo viola? Non he ho mai visti.”
La bambina arrossì infastidita, come se dovesse giustificarsi della scelta del colore.
“Il grigio è scarico.”
“Per fortuna lo è. Altrimenti non avrei visto il mio nuovo animale preferito. Il lupo viola.”
Alina non rispose.
“Cosa mangiano i lupi viola? Pecore gialle?” chiese Ilya.
La bambina alzò gli occhi dal foglio e fissò Ilya con un'intensità che lo mise a disagio.
“Dov’è mio fratello?”
Ilya Rozanov riceve una chiamata dalla Russia: suo fratello Alexei e la moglie sono stati arrestati. Summary
The night after Marlow's hit leaves Shane motionless on the ice, Ilya is alone in a hotel room with no one to call and no one who can know he's scared. As the hours stretch on with no real news, old memories and older wounds catch up with him, and he has to decide whether to keep hiding, or finally show up.

Summary
“We can't be something, Hollander.” The look on Ilya's face is heartbreaking. If Shane had to guess, he feels the exact same way as him. They both know there's more and they want it, but there are too many barriers in place preventing them from this.
Well, maybe that will change once Shane takes the test that's been burning a hole in his pocket since he bought it at the convenience store a block away. He was going to take it after the game and talking with Ilya regardless, but Ilya being there depended on how this conversation continued.
“What if we had to be?” Ilya turns his head and perks an eyebrow at that, and Shane takes a deep breath. “Have you ever heard of the MC-15 gene?”
“Shane…” Ilya's eyes have grown wide, and Shane lets out a nervous chuckle.
“It runs in my family, so I got tested when I turned thirteen and I have it. It was one of those things where I knew about it in the back of my mind, but I never thought about it because I had no reason to.”

“You all good, Hollander?” Wiebe asks, startling him as he turns his head to see their coach standing beside the bench.
“Fine, coach,” he huffs out his reply, a little embarrassed at how out of breath he is. “Just taking a quick break.”
“You know, you can sit out practice?”
“I know, you’ve been telling me for months.”
“Well, you’re gettin’ there, kid. That baby looks about ready to score a hat trick. I’m thinking you should probably start taking it easy. When’s your due date again?”
Shane’s eyes darken, lips thinning. “Not until next week.”
“Next week?” Wiebe looks surprised by this. “What the hell are you even still doing here, Hollander?”

Logan’s eyes widened immediately. “Oh.”
Shane smiled softly. “You know, when you blew out your candles?”
For a moment Logan looked suspicious, like perhaps wishes were classified information. Then he leaned closer dramatically. “I wished for Isla.”
Shane blinked. “…Who’s Isla, baby?”
Logan looked at him like this should’ve been obvious. “My baby.”

Ilya gripped the envelope tighter. “The MVP,” he began slowly, still staring directly at Shane, “is…”
Another pain slammed into Shane so hard his vision whited out.
“…Shane Hollander.”
The room exploded with cheers and applause . People rising to their feet.
Shane barely heard any of it. His father hugged him first, his mother following suit. “Sweetheart,” she whispered against his ear, “you don’t look well. I don’t think you should be going up there alone..”
He couldn’t answer, legs shaking as he stood carefully. He ignored the concerned look both of his parents threw his way as he managed to walk in the right direction.
The pressure between his hips was unbearable now. Every step toward the stage felt wrong, and painful and so fucking wet. Why was it wet?
Or Shane goes into labor at the NHL awards with a son they didn’t even know existed.

Summary
