Maybe the Hadal Zone was named after the realm of the unsalvageable dead for good reason, and what floats in a relentless absence of light should be left alone. You should not try to seek it out. You should not try to explain it. You should not yearn for it.

Summary
Humans are strange things. They're a food source, a threat, but never a friend. At least, that's the thing they never should be, but children have a way of flipping things around. All children play with their food, after all, but there is a whole different set of warnings when your food is sentient.
Velvitine knew of all these warnings, had heard them every day, but he was also a child. A child who smelled a treat, and we all know what happens when you let a child loose in a candy store.
