Summary
An assassin is tasked with eliminating an industrial saboteur. Instead, he finds himself becoming part of her operation, and is confronted with his own past
Excerpt:
He doesn’t plan on sleeping, and he knows that neither does she. He takes residence in a dark corner of the room.
Normally he would choose the window side so he can monitor the entrance, but this time he decides to be near the door – just in case she decides to bolt after all. She sits down under the window, the faint, pale moonlight making her look like her namesake while he melts into the darkness, resembling his own.
Suddenly aware of her eyes on him, he looks up to see her studying him. He leans back to study her in return, the first chance they both have to properly size each other up. He wonders if he is what she expected. She seems to be wondering the same thing.“Can you do me a favour and not kill me until we’ve taken the child to safety?" she asks casually.
“Are you taking the piss?”
