Summary
When Sonic was just a child, he was taken in by GUN. He was raised and trained with the hope that one day, he could be the upper hand they need to capture Shadow, a dangerous and powerful creature that escaped their clutches fifty years ago and has been in hiding ever since. After they’re alerted to Shadow’s location, his capture is inevitable. As Sonic witnesses the inhuman treatment his fellow colleagues cast upon the hedgehog, he starts to question his life and how he’s treated by his “family”. He finds himself deeply drawn to this enigmatic, misanthropic hedgehog, the only individual he’s ever met that looks like him and understands the animalistic parts of him. Distance grows between him and GUN with each word spoken between him and Shadow. Sonic must figure out where his loyalties lie and who the real animals are.

If someone had told Shadow that when he and Sonic had first started dating, this is how he'd end up, he would've scoffed in downright offense. He was not, and had never been, the type of hedgehog to get on his knees for any other. But over time, as he'd actually worked through his issues, he'd learned... quite a lot about himself. This is the first fic I've written in the past five years and it's an ambitious one at that, lol. Having recently celebrated Sonics 35th birthday, I wanted to take the opportunity to reflect on everyones lives; the good, the bad, and the ugly of getting older. This is largely an exploration of Shadow's Black Doom biology, the implications of his immortality, and his struggle with being the Ultimate Lifeform and how it juxtaposes against Sonic and his powers (cherry picked from Archie and Fleetway Comics) as they confront the harrowing reality of growing up (feat. the rest of main Sonic crew).
