Six months after the Eclipse Cannon explosion, Sonic, Knuckles and Tails are enjoying life on Earth together. Until a taller, slightly less grumpy ebony hedgehog they thought was dead comes out of nowhere. Claiming he’s from another dimension. His proof? The fact he showed up in their backyard with an injured, older version of Sonic.
Feat. Sonic struggling with the fact Shadow might be alive, Knuckles being overprotective and Tails trying his best
This story was written by someone who grew up loving Sonic Underground, loved the Movies then proceeded to write this based on my own franken-canon because why not?
Please note: The alternate versions of Sonic and Shadow are both roughly 30 years old in this fic and they’re based off of Sonic Adventure 2 and Sonic Prime

Summary
Kaito ultimately lost his brother, Lucas—an event that mirrored Shadow’s own trauma of witnessing Maria’s death in an Emerald Energy blast. In the aftermath, the human Kaito found himself carrying a volatile and dangerous emerald-based power, and the surge didn’t go unnoticed. Dr. Eggman sensed the sudden energy wave radiating from Kaito, immediately recognizing it as something worth pursuing and exploiting.
Shadow, already battered from the chaos, suffered even more as he looked upon Lucas’s lifeless body. Guilt hit hard—he blamed himself for failing to protect Kaito’s brother when it mattered most. But there was no time to grieve. Their window to escape closed quickly as the ARK deployed a tranquilizer measure, capturing both Shadow and Kaito under the justification that they were too dangerous to be left roaming free.
Even restrained, Kaito refused to let Shadow become another experiment or weapon. With one final act of determination, he forced his power into a last-ditch teleport. In an instant, Shadow was sent safely down to Earth—saved by Kaito’s sacrifice and spared from the fate waiting aboard the ARK.

Sonic’s ear twitched at the sound of Rouge’s voice. He and Neo turned their heads to see the former jewel thief and now Freedom Fighter dropping down onto the sand a few feet away from them. Her heavy breathing told Sonic that she must have been pushing herself hard to get here fast.
“Rouge? What’s going on?” Sonic asked.
“Wave and Nicole found Tails,” Rouge managed to told him once she caught her breath.
They… they found Tails? His chest felt like it was being constricted, his throat ached again, and his heart pounded against his chest. Could it be true?
“But you’re not gonna like what—”
Sonic didn’t wait for her to finish. He pulled away from Neo and sprung to his feet.
“Sonic, wait!” Neo called, reaching for his hand, but it was too late. The teenage hedgehog was already running at top speed, heading for the Freedom Fighters’ home base. He had to know if Rouge was right, if Wade and Nicole were right. He had to know where Tails was. He had to, if he was going to make up for his failure nearly two years ago now.
