Summary
Four years after Hawkins, the Party is still close. They are just older, busier, and better at avoiding the hard conversations. Will Byers has built a steady life in New York. Mike Wheeler has a half-finished manuscript, too many quiet regrets, and a habit of showing up anyway.
The problem is the manuscript: writing it forces Mike to look back and he starts noticing what he missed while he was living it. especially where Will was concerned. After a wedding and breakup keep them all in the same orbit long enough that there’s nowhere to hide behind. After all, the truth always comes out in the end, and Mike has stepped over things for too long.
Canon-compliant post-epilogue (in my heart, this is what happens.)

Summary
Of course, that's when Will sees him. Hopper's got a thick arm wrapped around his shoulders, making him look small, despite the fact that he'd shot up three inches in their last summer together and now stood a whopping five feet and eleven inches tall. His limbs stick out at awkward angles and his trousers are slightly too short, nipping at his ankles and showing off mismatched socks. He looks away from Hopper, and—
Mike's eyes lock with Will's.
Mike Wheeler is somewhere in there, Will is certain. He's going to get his best friend back, and if he ends up with a little more than what he bargained for, well, who is he to complain?

“... Will.”
“Okay, sure, yeah. What about him?”
“I’m a bad friend.” Mike admitted, breathing it out like a vomited confession, like something he was desperate to be rid of.
“Did something happen?” Steve asked.
“Yes.” He paused. “Well, no. It’s— it’s more like… more like… he got a boyfriend.” Mike huffed out a breath.
“I know.” Steve agreed slowly, brows raised. “Carlton. Will, Robin and I met up a while back and he introduced us. Seems like a good kid. What about him?”
Mike felt like a fucking idiot.
Of course Steve didn’t get it. Why would Steve get it?
“I… I just…” How was Mike even meant to begin to talk about this? “It’s driving me crazy, man. I hate the guy.”
OR -
Mike spirals about his feelings, gets in his car, and somehow ends up going to Steve Harrington for help. He gets a much-needed pep talk and finally goes after what he wants.

A missed meet-up leads to a reschedule, multi-coloured strobe lights and the resurfacing of feelings that were supposed to stay buried.
But will those feelings remain a secret or will they snowball into an avalanche?
