basically a 5+1 in which Buck and Eddie kiss each other goodbye and one time they kiss each other hello
“It’s all good, Buck. Have a safe shift, I’ll be back in a few, okay?”
Buck nods as he watches Eddie open the door. Turning back to him, Buck doesn’t have enough time to process what’s happening before he feels Eddie’s lips on his in a brief kiss.
“Take care, see ya, Buck.” Eddie then turns away, and closes the door.
Buck is grateful for that because he’s not sure that the frozen dumbfounded look he’s sporting is his best look. A look that’s written on his face because what the fuck?

Chris just gave him a knowing look. “Mmm-hmm.”
Eddie kept his eyes on the road. “Drop it.”
Chris turned to stare out the window. “Must be hard, being so in love with someone and not being able to do anything about it.”
Eddie groaned. “Chris–”
“Like, imagine spending years pining after your best friend, going on trips together, practically raising a kid together, and still not having the guts to say anything–”
“We're not doing this right now.”
Chris just grinned.

Eddie has no idea how to cope when a temporary case of amnesia causes the return of Buck 1.0. Buck has no clue why his future self hasn't made the moves on his hot best friend. It all goes pretty well, considering.

Summary
Eddie listens to the voicemail later. Buck sounds like he’s at a grocery store, absentmindedly talking into the phone. “Oh, I guess you’re with your sisters. Sorry to miss you. I just wanted to tell you about this call we had last night, but I gotta hear your reactions, so, later. Okay, uh, I guess I’ll just call back. Or text.”
It ends abruptly, without a goodbye. Eddie replays it a second time, closes his eyes as he sits in the truck. For a moment, he can pretend Buck is sitting in the passenger seat next to him. For a moment, Eddie is back in Los Angeles and his best friend is dragging him through the grocery store.
The voicemail ends, Eddie opens his eyes, and the fantasy breaks. Eddie is still in El Paso, parked in front of the house he’s renting, and there’s no one in the passenger seat with him.
Eddie moves to Texas. Buck moves into his house. There's a love story somewhere in here.
