It’s not an unfamiliar feeling.
Initially, you ignored it; the strange sense of foreboding as you ordered from a coffee shop close to the Hunter’s Association on a particularly rough morning when the sun had barely began to rise.
The discomfort that followed you as you went on your evening jog a week later in a public park, the sole reason for your faster-than-usual pace that broke your personal record.
That prickle on the back of your neck as you brought groceries up to your apartment, before your attention redirected to transferring all of your bags to one arm so you could unlock the door with the other.
The shadow that you swore you saw outside your window late at night before snapping the curtains closed, convincing yourself it was a trick of the streetlights below.
It was only later, when you’d woken in a cold sweat in the middle of your bed to the sight of two golden eyes staring at you from the shadows, that you realised your instincts had been right.

“Caleb.“ Zayne spoke in his quiet, firm tone Sylus was used to hearing when he took work calls. “Give me your arm.” Zayne said, his tone measured, clipped.
In the cold silence that hung in the air, Sylus replayed Rafayel’s words in his mind: oh, you’re in big trouble, puppy.
