Summary
While Sylvie is admiring the ring in her hand, she doesn't notice Matt rounding the corner and walking into the aisle of the locker room in which she's standing.
With a soft voice, Matt greets her, "Hey, Brett. Is that a -?"
Caught by surprise, Sylvie shuts the box hastily, and looks up at the man standing in front of her, who is staring at the box with wide eyes.
Sylvie nods. "A ring? Yeah. Yeah it is."

Summary
“What do you mean he hit his head? And why am I just now hearing about this?”
Gallo promptly closes his mouth, mid harrowing tale, and gives Brett a wary glance. “It was just a slight knock against the building and he had his helmet on—“
“With Matt, a little knock can be a big deal,” Brett says as she crosses her arms over her chest and glares at the Candidate.
Gallo slides a beseeching glance over to Kidd, who rolls her eyes but decides to be merciful.
“Lin checked him out on the scene,” Kidd promises her. “Gave him a clean bill of health.”
Sylvie scoffs. “Right, like he’d actually admit it if anything was wrong. Is he in his quarters?”

Summary
Yes, he’s supposed to be giving Sylvie space, and he is. Mostly. So what if he takes a little longer to check 81 after they get back from a call? He’s being meticulous about the details. It’s not in an effort to glimpse Brett as soon as 61 pulls in through the bay doors.
He’s a terrible liar. Even to himself.
“Captain!”
He turns with brows raised and gets the distinct feeling that his hovering is about to backfire.
“Lieutenant,” he says, nodding politely toward Grainger. “You’re a little far from 40, aren’t you?”
“Uh, yeah,” he says, sheepishly. He cranes his neck around the app floor and then eventually focuses on Casey. “Your ambo must still be out, huh?”
Casey nods and restlessly shifts his weight. “Yeah, they had to stop by headquarters. Might be a while.” He doesn’t actually know how long they’ll be so it’s not a lie, but...not exactly the truth either.

Summary
It’s been one week since Foster went back to med school and Casey knows it’s been hard on Brett. Not just because she misses Foster, but also because her temp partner is an idiotic windbag who continually tries to talk over her on calls. He believed Kidd referred to it as ‘mansplaining’ — as if Brett may not know what she’s doing. Casey, for some reason, takes personal offense to that implication. Brett is one of, if not The, best paramedics in the CFD. Plus, PIC on 61.
This Nelson moron has to go. Boden says they’re stuck with him for two more shifts, at least, and gave Matt his famous silencing glare when he tried to push back.
“I am working on it, Casey. Until then Brett assured me she can manage.”
She would. She never wants to be a problem or cause any tension in the house. Taking care of others is sewn into the fabric of her very being. But someone has to look out for her. And Casey’s decided that someone is him.
