What if Triwizard Tournament, but Hunger Games?

Centuries ago, instead of hiding from muggles with the Statute of Secrecy, wizards used a ritual to create a dimension for all magical beings to live openly. But maintaining that freedom comes at a lethal price. Every seven years, the worthiest students in Europe have the great honour of being selected to compete in a tournament: three deadly tasks, two months of training, one victor. Grindelwald’s Ministry demands it. But certain troublesome students only follow rules which happen to align with their own plans.

Tom Riddle intends to win. Harry Potter refuses to lose. From rivalry comes respect, and an intense interest that, once sparked, refuses to burn out. They are binary stars locked in orbit in a world built to break them apart. But the world doesn’t define them, their choices do: what they decide to fight for, and who they choose to trust. If they get those right, they might be able to define the world.

Chris wants his dad. He wants his bed. But he can't have those yet, and he and Dad never really text because if Dad’s not working they’re usually together or one of them is too busy to text, so texting Dad feels weird, but Buck… He can text Buck.

do you think it was a good thing for Pandora to keep hope in the box?

The little dots pop up immediately, which Chris wasn’t expecting.

I’m not sure. I do know that it technically wasn’t a box, it was a pithos, which is like a big jar they used for storage. Box is a mistranslation, but it became so widely used that we all just roll with it now.

It’s a very classic Buck response. The dots keep going.

On that note, “hope” isn’t an exact translation either. Another way that people translate it is “deceptive expectation.” Hope isn’t necessarily deceptive, and we tend to use it in a positive way, so it’s maybe not the BEST word to use, but I guess in English we don’t have a better one for “deceptive expectation” and “hope” sounds pithier.

    Deceptive expectation. Huh.

As much as he might like to cut a natty figure in a proper waistcoat and trousers with a reasonable inseam, Bilbo knew there were many more important things to bother with at the moment.

Rebuilding an entire dwarven kingdom, for one. And airing out the stink of dragon would be nice as well.

    Summary

Tim Drake never actually wanted to become part of the Robin-Batman-vigilante outfit. No, really. But the last Robin up and died, and now Batman is going crazy, and no one else is doing anything about it, so...Tim decides to become Robin. He might as well, right? At the very least it'll give him something to do while his parents are gone.

Still, Tim's not taking up the mantle until he can put a couple of things in order. Step one? Making sure the Joker can't get it into his head to kill another Robin. Not ever again. (Good thing Tim's not the one with a 'no killing' rule.)

And then after that? Well, after that it's only just a matter of keeping Batman from learning Tim's identity and subsequently chasing him off. Not until Bruce can get back on his feet and pick a new Robin, a real one this time. Easy-peasy.

    Sort of.
