Summary
Once the gang escapes the circus, they try to speak out about what happened and what they went through, but C&A obviously doesn't want the scandal, so they try to silence them (LOL) (that was a very subtle reference) anyway, so basically once some of them start going missing, the other 4 try to find them and save them.

Melanie has always wanted to be popular. Fit the mold. Be pretty.
When she gets home from being pretty and perfect at school, her father beats her, rapes her, and her stepmother isn't any better.
When new girl Sam comes along and dethrones her, Melanie realizes that being popular is too much work for to little reward.
She gives up being popular. Falls into the shadows.
Sam notices this, and wonders why she isn't more sad. More angry.
But as the cyber bullying, the fat shaming, the eating disorders, and the strait up high school bullshit starts to get to her, she starts to see things from Melanie's point of view.
