    Every split in the timeline means one goes well and one goes badly. Statistically speaking, there has to be a timeline where everything goes wrong and everything is lost. But those timelines need to be pruned, sheared off the stronger branches where life still thrives. Cloud Strife is the only reason his current timeline exists. After giving Sephiroth the Black Materia to destroy the world, he's left to wander the barren landscape alone for all eternity. Unable to die because of his own link to Sephiroth, he's keeping this fading timeline open simply by existing. But Gaia needs this timeline gone, so there's only one option: Remove Cloud from it entirely, and hand him over to another.

    But this new world is very different from the one he originally comes from. On Gaia's World of the Tree, the most important bond people have is with the planet, while in Odin's World of the Wolf, that honor belongs to the bonds between people. Lifemates and packs, to be precise, so this is going to be interesting.

    Chapter 1's beginning spints off my fic On Bound and Broken Wings. That's the only OBABW reference though, the rest is standalone.

    When Sephiroth and his Remnants awaken in the past, before the First Class SOLDIERs started to degrade and during the Wutai War, Sephiroth decides to go about things a little differently. Using his knowledge of the future, he believes he can bring about the end of the world. His first step? Finding Cloud and securing him to his side. To do that, Kadaj, Loz and Yazoo are sent to befriend him and promise to help him get into SOLDIER. How hard can that possibility be!

    Cloud Strife can't believe the newest Firsts actually want to be friends with him! It's almost too good to be true! Maybe a little too good. Cloud can't help, but wonder: why are they so interested in him? When everyone else in Shinra seems to only see a country bumpkin with no place here. What do they know about Cloud that even Cloud doesn't know?

    One year after the incident in Corel, everything is different. Shinra has lost control of not only Corel, but much of the western continent. However, whispers of R&D’s terrors continue to circulate and the world’s most powerful corporation is certainly not off the battlefield yet.

    In Midgar, Aerith tries to navigate curfews and checkpoints while staying under the radar.

    Far to the west, Sephiroth can’t decide whether he’s losing more patience with his Wutaian allies or with his lack of progress in deciphering Jenova’s next move.

    And in Junon, Cissnei struggles to maintain her cover at a rehab center so tiny where no one would expect to find SOLDIERs, let alone amnesiac Firsts.

    This is the second installment of a planned trilogy.

    And also back in time.

    Cloud Strife would have loved trying to figure that one out, but a certain preteen redhead by the name of Genesis Rhapsodos was currently dangled around his neck and cooing about his “Gift of the Goddess”. Oh, Hel. Minerva was going to have a lot to answer for.
