    “What? No, it’s totally normal!” Zack insists. He gestures at the rest of his, not to brag, very comfortable bed, and whips the puppy eyes out without a second thought. “C’monnn, Spike! I’m deprived!”

    “Oh, deprived? Big word, dumbass,” Cloud deadpans, crooking a brow at him. He is utterly unmoved by the welcoming arrangement of pillows and blankets collected around Zack, or the snack stash basket in Zack’s lap. “Not falling for it.”

    “Cloud.” Zack sits up with a very serious look. “Would I ever lie to you?”

    “Absolutely,” Cloud answers without a second thought

    Zack does his best to convince Cloud that platonic cuddling is totally a thing bros do, and they're the best of bros, so obviously they have to do it!
    Well. Now he's cuddling his crush regularly, and slowly going insane.
    (Zack and Cloud will get to that romantic relationsip eventually, but the road there is kinda stupid)

    Playing in the “big leagues” was a whole other world for Cloud, and it was made easier by one individual — the Captain of the Midgar Currents, Zack Fair. It started with the occasional head tap, which turned into chest taps and side hugs, and then to early morning texts and late night skate sessions. He had told Cloud simply that he was “being a good captain” by looking after the rookies, but Cloud felt like that was just something Zack said to everyone who asked why his eyes, even when answering questions from the media, drifted in the direction of Cloud.

    It is the natural law of the world that each person has at least one soulmate. The amount of bonds tied to the soul can be easily determined with how many unique symbols there are in the soulmark everyone was born with.

    Just as the sun always rises every morning and the stars twinkle every night, every pair—or group—of soulmates would always have a Dreamer. For even with the unique soulmarks that would hopefully allow soulmates to recognize each other, the vastness of the planet still makes it difficult for them to find one another.

    Legends say that it was Gaia’s pity, for she could not bear the thought of soulmates never finding each other. Hence, blessing each bond with a Dreamer who would be able to unite their fated souls together. After awakening in their coming of age, a Dreamer would be able to connect everyone who shares their soul bond through a shared dreamscape. It was because of this blessing, many were able to find their fated ones during their lifetime.

    Genesis, Angeal, Sephiroth, and Zack were considered lucky soulmates who have found each other way before shared dreams. But that luck backfires when they could only meet their last soulmate in a space beyond sleep and reality.
