Summary
Phainon's whole body goes cold and then very, very hot. "Wow, Mydei," he stammers, a nervous laugh tripping its way out of his mouth. "At least let me ask you on a date before we talk about proposals."
Mydei stiffens in his hold, then leans back, bracing his hands on Phainon's shoulders. Phainon's stomach sinks as he sees something wounded on Mydei's face he's never seen before.
"You don't think we're dating."

Summary
Once again, Mydei curses Nikador's lover, Bepsis, for giving his people the 'gift' that ensures that there will always be warriors among Kremnos' ranks.
Getting killed again and again would be preferable. At least, that’s a pain he’s intimately familiar with.
But after two whole days of labor, he's cradling his son in his arms, just hours away from giving him up and letting him live a normal life without ever letting this child know who his real parents are.
Phainon will never forgive him.
But this is the best choice, for all of them.
