Summary
He no longer knew what was happening around him. Shapes twisted and collided in his vision, scents and sounds crashing together until the world became nothing but chaos. Only the blinding white light at the edge of his perception remained, pressing against his body as it trembled and gave way.
He couldn’t give up now. There was still a duty he had to fulfill. Someone he had to protect.
“…don’t die!” Her trembling voice shattered through the haze.
She dropped to her knees beside him, pulled him close, held him tight.
A violent cough ripped from his chest. Blood spilled from his mouth. An overwhelming pain surged through his body.
“I’m begging you… don’t die!”
He wanted to speak, to tell her he wasn’t leaving. But the words died in his throat.
Her emerald eyes, the eyes he couldn't stop looking at, were the last thing he saw before darkness swallowed him whole.

Summary
A century ago, Link walked behind her. Steps in sync with hers, eyes always upon her back, his face a mask of indifference. Zelda wanted nothing more than to rid herself of his constant presence.
Five years ago, he walked beside her. A smile upon his face, mischief in his eyes, his expressions loud and free. Zelda basked in their joint freedom, their choices finally uninhibited.
Now, he walks before her. Sword drawn, eyes vigilant, ready to shield her from any danger, to keep her from being torn away from him once again. Zelda, truthfully, is at a loss for how to react.
A look at their lives before the Calamity, after the Calamity, and after the Upheaval.

Summary
It had been years. Ages. Two catastrophes, two miracles, two lives forever changed, and Link still didn’t know how to talk to her. He didn’t know how to speak around the tight feeling in his chest that wanted to make him collapse at her feet and follow her to the ends of Hyrule. He didn’t know how to live a life with her casually in it: she had always been that thing at the periphery of his life, never attainable, but forever hanging over his head. Whether they were in the same timeline or not, it was always for her.
In which Link and Zelda have lived through two disasters already: how bad could one more be? (Pretty bad, it turns out, actually.)
