Summary
At first the fingers that trailed across her back coaxed a lean in his direction. He had been getting better. But then she caught the sound of wax paper and realized he was attempting to locate her fries. Elbowing his ribs, he hissed and pulled his arm back, not bothering to look remorseful as he took another drink.
“And that you two are engaging occasionally.’ His nose wrinkled briefly. “I sometimes catch the taste of stale nicotine on her tongue, and our Lyul’ka doesn’t smoke.’
“Fortunately quack doesn’t come with its own flavour.’ Jonathan drawled, meticulously cleaning his fingers of grease. “But you are a bit bitter, you might want to drink more water.’
At a loss for words the fries were moved to the middle of the table, free for all, her appetite lost as she struggled to plot the course that had got them here. It was good, it was open dialogue, even if more of her personal life was being discussed than normal. Unsurprising that the fries were soon gone, watching them disappear plucked by slender fingers that all but pecked the knuckles of the thicker ones that didn’t mind crushing the neighbors.
“Thank you for the observation.’
