Summary
It is many millennia before the Air Nomad Genocide, and the Four Nations are a possibility only just being dreamt of. The predecessors of the great powers of the Hundred Year War are in their infancy, struggling to emerge from the chaos of a time before nations. The first Water Tribe colonies beyond the divided North Pole are only just emerging; the clans of the Fire Islands seethe as they throw off the yoke of Sun Warrior rule; the great continent is a patchwork of petty Earth States and tribes; the Air Nomad communities are divided by geography and ideology. Familiar places are known by different names, and entire cultures still thrive which time will erase from memory. Amidst the discord of the era, the few are even aware of the idea of the Avatar, and fewer still think it anything more than a myth. With no way of identifying the Avatar and no idea of their whereabouts, finding and securing influence over them is yet another goal in the ambitions of the powerful leaders of the times.

Summary
"Saw thou our victorious lord, Thengel's son?" A lament in honour of Théoden, last king of the Second Line of Rohan, composed in the traditional verse of the "Rohirric" language.
Or rather, an attempt at composing Anglo-Saxon alliterative verse in Old English with the tragic king of Rohan as its subject matter. Now listed under the correct language thanks to AO3 now listing it! And of course, I have included a modern English translation below, translated as literally as possible to preserve most of the alliteration. In any case, I am an amateur dabbler in languages and am certainly not rigorously trained in OE, so apologies in advance for any errors in composition!

What would Frank Herbert have written in Dune 7, truly?
I longed for a classic, "heady" tale that would echo Frank's writing style and themes, and weaved its way through the giant questions that Heretics and Chapterhouse left unanswered. It started with a character exploration and turning upside down some of the concepts of the book, and it quickly evolved into a multi-planet, multi-plot story that follows are most beloved characters (Miles Teg, Murbella, Sheeana, Duncan Idaho) as well as a cast of new ones.Depending on what you define canon, this is a canon continuation (wrt Frank) or a canon alternative (wrt Brian's books).
What will happen to Leto's unnumerable atoms of awareness spread into the Scattering on rag-tag Bene Gesserit ships? What is going on with Marty and Daniel? What is Duncan Idaho? And so on...

This is no dumb animal, Paul realizes with a sudden chill.
'Who are you, little mouse,' the susurrations of the waiting worm seem to say. 'You are no child of my desert. What manner of creature are you that enters my domain?'
'I am no one, Great Maker,' his trembling fingers reply as they sink into the dusty grains beneath them. They grasp at the rough texture in desperation, in supplication before this desert god. 'I am lost. My family is gone, my people are scattered, and I, with them. Where do I go from here?'
tldr; I prompted myself: 'ok cool cool but like, what if Paul could speak to sandworms?'
