    Leaning slightly to the right, he tried to get a glimpse of some of the camera footage. He took a double take at what he saw.

    A strange, stonelike path was suspended in mid-air, winding around the hero HQ like a boa constrictor about to squeeze its prey to death. How the hell was the rock-path not affected by gravity?! Not much else could be seen on the footage at the angle at which that camera was placed, so Joel moved on to the next screen.

    This camera had a way better vantage point, he could see evenly spaced blobs of dynamite stashed away on window-sills and support beans. In the corner of the camera, the stone path was being built along, as if by magic.

    Meanwhile Grian discovers just how little control he has over the games, how easily players can be turned against one another, and how persistent the past is to repeat itself. Not to mention just how much his own worldview differs from the truth.

He haphazardly ran his fingers across his scalp, attempting to flatten loose strands catching in the wind, before rubbing a weary hand down his face.

    He then stood for a moment, letting the brisk wind entangle and numb him. Though it was far from likely he would be one of the two selected, he still let himself relish the fresh air. No matter the outcome, the Games or the mines, neither would grant him the luxury of time. He’d become accustomed, over the years, to the cold staleness of air found deep in caverns of stone, infesting his lungs; he knew the feeling of poison.
