Summary
Wally West’s life is about as average and boring as one can get. Sixteen years old, and all he’s got going for him is his County High School’s track record, a substitute position on the school’s Academic Decathlon Team (thank you, AP Chem), and a pair of emotionally unavailable parents. Yikes.
But when Wally stumbles into a fantastical world populated by ghoulish monster folk, everything he knows turns upside down. In his struggle to accept his new reality, he and his newfound companions search diligently for a way to send him home. Except, there’s a catch: if the other citizens of Halloween Town discover he’s a human, he might not ever get out. Luckily, Wally happens to know a thing or two about being an outsider hiding in plain sight. This’ll be a total piece of cake!

Kirumi waited outside while Kokichi scrounged around his dorm in the late afternoon gloom, picking up the grocery bag and the shit he’d stacked in his mini-fridge. He’d worked hard to earn his rights to cooking in his own dorm, dammit. If he left Kirumi to her own devices, she’d be force-feeding him three course meals a day, and they would be whatever the inverse of acquaintances was. Parasites, maybe.
Kirumi and Kokichi are a couple months into their arrangement of cooking together on the weekends. They aren't not friends. Probably.

Ohhhh wow. Some of the most keen narration I’ve ever read, absolutely bleeding with character. The sharp prose/sentence flow really lends itself to Kokichi’s calculating nature. All around a delight of a double character study.

I cannot believe I never found this fic before now. Characterization is IMPECCABLE, particularly for the modern setting. It’ll certainly keep me up at night wondering how this fic might’ve ended, but at least I got to read these first thirteen thousand words at all. (And who knows—maybe this author will upload the final chapter ten years later. Either way, thank you for writing this, OP. Seriously.)
