    Zuko doesn’t know exactly how he got here.

    But when a Spirit grabs you by the arm, dances a waltz with you, reveals your past and future to the Avatar, and shows you getting shot with lightning, you don't ask questions. You just get on the flying bison and embrace a new destiny in an attempt to save yourself and your estranged sister from the monster haunting your home.

    Especially when there are only two known lightningbenders left in the world, and the Spirit revealed that both of them are traitors waiting for their chance to strike.

    Or: the author has let the Epic brainworms get to them, and Zuko is the one who has to deal with it.

    Featuring: Zuko trading his non-existent impulse control for some new friends, an over-protective Gaang who is very okay with that decision, a baffled Azula who isn't exactly going to say no to the older brother that wants to clear a path for her to take the throne, and a confused Iroh who just wants to know what he did to get slotted into the same category as Ozai.

    Irritation flashes across Zuko’s face. He wants to say something, but Katara doesn't give him the chance.

    “You burned Toph right after you announced that you were on our side! You burned down Kyoshi Island! Not to mention what you did to yourself–!”

    Zuko raises his hand.

    “Wait,” he says, frowning. “You think that my scar was caused by… some kind of training accident and that I did it to myself?”

    Or: Katara has doubts about Aang's new firebending teacher. After all, Zuko’s fire has already hurt too many — including himself.
