Summary
The whiskey burns his throat like gasoline, the hairs on the back of his neck standing up. His eyes start to water as Lan Xichen gasps for breath, coughing desperately. Nie Mingjue squints through his pain as his boyfriend heaves as if one of his lungs has collapsed.
“Horrible,” Lan Xichen gasps like a personal affront. It shocks a laugh out of Nie Mingjue.
“It’s likely one of the whiskeys meant for sipping, not for chugging.”
“Awful,” Lan Xichen counters with disdain, already pouring another shot for each of them.

Or, the one where Lan Xichen gets incredibly drunk and tells Nie Mingjue all about his amazing boyfriend—who is, coincidentally, Nie Mingjue.

Summary
Loss was hard, losing a brother then a friend was harder. It was no wonder that Nie Mingjue was asked to come to Cloud Recess to "help" Lan Xichen after the shock of his little brother's departure from the sect then Jin Guangyao's disappearance. To say he tries is more a definition of intent but not necessarily success.

His words only seem to deepen Lan Zhan’s frown. Ah, frowning so much since such a young age! Though, not as scary as his adult one. Now really taking Lan Zhan’s features he doesn’t look older than five years, which makes him wonder why is he all alone and unsupervised.
Wait…
“Y-You…” Lan Zhan stutters quietly, gaze quickly averting from the cultivator. One hand closes into a tight fist over the skirt of his robes though the one holding the random assortment of flowers remains as relaxed as he can manage. “Y-You shouldn’t b-be here…”
Or, Wei Wuxian meets one more member of the inner Lan family.

Lan Zhan had been so icy and unpleasant to him, it had never occurred to him that he might end up spending the next however many years with this dumb, burning feeling in his chest whenever he looks at him.
