Whilst not as disadvantaged as her best friend, Alora has been training to become a Scribe for her whole life, so adjusting to the likelihood of death every day is a big jump for Alora.
Which is not made any easier by Xaden Riorson, who despises her from the moment they meet. Or does he? She should hate him. She knows she should, but Gods, he makes it hard.
