Lena is laughing softly at her, and Kara can feel the buzz of it where Lena’s back presses into her thighs. She huffs, irritated. “You want spontaneous? Fine.” She reaches down to Lena’s hand, currently maneuvering her controller, and slips the ring off her thumb. “Here.”
Lena cranes her neck away from the TV to stare up at Kara, thumbs stalling on the buttons. “Hey, that’s my—what are you doing?”
Kara presents the ring before her. “Lena Luthor,” she starts. “You’ve been the love of my life for almost as long as I can remember and my best friend for even longer. And I would be… beyond happy to spend every moment of the rest of our lives together. Marry me?”

Kara craves Lena. That's the crux of it. Her friendship is intoxicating, like a drug. She thinks she wouldn't mind kissing her on the lips, because a lot of best friends who are really really close kiss on the lips. It's just something humans do. Having that part of Lena hidden away from her, it makes Kara feel some kind of way.
She wishes Lena was even the slightest bit interested in her. That she would notice her broad shoulders when they work out, or touch her jaw with the pads of her fingers to get her attention.
But that’s not who Kara is to Lena. She would be jealous but they’re just friends, best friends, so.

For the first time, Lena’s snipe and the crystal clear memory of their last phone call just makes Kara smile. “I’m good,” she says softly.

There’s so many things Kara loves about the fall, it’s hard to keep track.
But clothing and food and dropping temperatures aside, the reason Kara loves autumn the most out of the four seasons is Lena Luthor.
It’s taken her a while to figure it out — the better part of two years to be exact — and the realization crept on her so quietly it took her even more to connect all the dots. Hours, days, months of careful observation, of study to conclude that, yes, she isn’t crazy. Lena’s mannerism changes depending on the season.
