    Summary

It’s a well known fact that Buck is a good guy. Everyone knows that. Hell: the LAFD as a whole probably knows how good of a guy Buck is. He did save a dozen people during the tsunami while he was off duty while he was recovering and on blood thinners. A feat that the 118 hadn’t been aware of until one year after the tsunami, when one of the victims spoke up and named him as Firefighter Buck. The LAFD had recognized him for his bravery and Buck? He’d brushed it off like it was nothing.

So yeah, Buck’s a good guy. A great guy. But does he know how great he is? You would tell him and he would probably brush it off and tell you he’s just as good as everyone else.

The 118 know this, of course they do, but it all starts to come into clarity for them on a
stormy day when Buck shows up to work looking like a wet dog and one by one, they notice the little things that Buck does for them.

Or: a 7+1 where the 118 realize just how GOOD Buck is. Comfort, no hurt.

    Summary

“Shit, shit, shit,” he cursed as he gripped the wrist of his injured hand, holding it above his heart. The cut wasn’t massive and, by design, not something you could stitch, but that didn’t make it any less messy or risky.

The blood thinners were not his friend right now.

A singular river of red trailed down his forearm to his elbow, then dripped onto the floor, leaving little splatters that his shoes soon smeared against the tile.

“Towel, towel, towel,” he said, spinning on his heel, gaze raking the room frantically. “Fuck—shit, there you are.”

Buck wanted fajitas, so he went to the store for the sweet onions he needed, but he got the wrong kind because he unexpectedly ran into the team, which had nothing to do with why he was crying in his kitchen--obviously, the shitty onions were to blame.

And his day just gets worse from there--as he ends up fileting off a strip of skin, bleeding everywhere, then accidentally hitting his talk-to-text and sending a ramble he never meant anyone to hear to the last person on earth to care: Eddie.

“Josh doesn’t have a cat, Evan,” Maddie’s voice was hushed.

    “What?” Buck froze.

“Josh is allergic to cats,” Maddie told him. “They make him sneeze like crazy.”

“Then… who’s cat am I-“ Buck’s voice trailed off as he looked around the apartment in horror.

The photos on the wall, the decor style, the drawings on the fridge, the cat.

“Buck, are you in someone else’s apartment?” Maddie asked in a horrified tone.

“I- you said apartment 506!” Buck told her.

“I said apartment 606!” Maddie corrected.

Buck pulled his phone away from his ear, quickly fumbling to open his messages and- fuck, Maddie had said 606.

“But- the key was under the mat-“ Buck’s breath picked up.

“A lot of people leave spare keys under the mat!” Maddie cried.

Before Buck could say anything else, he heard the terrifying noise of a key in the lock of the front door.

    Oh no… oh god.

    “Maddie, someone’s here!” he groaned.

“Oh my god, Evan!” Maddie’s voice sounded exasperated.

“What the-“ a low, smooth voice sounded from the doorway.

The new probie is a mystery wrapped up in a contradiction wrapped in another mystery. Friendly and overbearing yet completely reserved. Trying to figure him out is like getting stuck in a revolving door that never slows down enough to let you get through the opening. And so far, he’s garnered them a net zero on profits two weeks in. The money box and accompanying notebook sat untouched in Hen’s locker.

In which Buck comes to the 118 with a more complicated history, one he is determined to hide. They still somehow become a family.

    Summary

“Rise and shine, Edmundo!” Buck cheers from the doorway to the bunk room. “You’re last up for breakfast, Cap made French toast and bacon!”

Eddie blinks. Not the previous day, then—Buck is alive. A dream? Eddie didn’t usually have vivid dreams, and none as realistic as that, but there’s no other way to explain…

Wait, was Buck playing this same song in his dream? Eddie swears he’s never heard it before, but he also swears he heard it then, so surely…

“Hey, you good?” Buck says, taking a couple steps closer, eyebrows furrowed in concern. He pauses the music on his phone. “Look like you’ve seen a ghost.”

    ---

Or, Eddie gets stuck in a time loop. Buck dies, a lot.
