Summary
The casket that once held what remnant of her soul was preserved was now the home of a freshly-picked lily. Not too far-fetched, she supposed, but she could tell from the softened ends of its petals to the texture of its leaves that it had been plucked from its shrub and confined within the glass casing. White Lily wondered if a flower like it ever had a voice of its own. If it had cried the same cries she uttered on that night, and was taken apart from its wholeness and locked inside what was essentially a faux greenhouse.
Had she continued thinking this way, she would’ve levelled the same remorse to the clusters of lilies thrown at her doorstep, no? How pitiful it was, seeing them scattered all over her desk. No one but these flowers could determine if a bunch once belonged to the same shrub, but even then, they would be beyond recognition that they’d be better off forgotten.
