Summary
A doctor of mine suggested purchasing a journal, but I’ve proven to be more egotistical than I initially thought. Selfishly, I like the idea that all of this won’t simply be shoved into a drawer or a box or an attic someplace, eaten up by dust and time. I like knowing that someone else is on the other side of these, living and breathing and loving. I hope you stay that way for a long, long time, Alex. (And that you learn sometimes to be a bit selfish, too.)

That’s what’s so dangerous about Shane. “Are you fucking kidding me?” Alex shouts into the white void. The snow muffles most of the sound. Of all the fucking people.
(After an ill-advised attempt to get off the mountain before a snow storm hits, Alex finds himself stuck for god knows how long sharing the too-large house of his least favorite neighbor. Good thing there are lots of bedrooms, so at least he can stay far away from Henry Fox. Right?)

Yes, he happened to be Asian and around the same size as Shane was at that age, but the similarities ended there. He didn’t have Shane’s skill handling the puck, he wasn’t as fast, his shots weren’t as accurate, and he certainly didn’t have the same hockey IQ.
Despite all this, the rookie was being propped up to attempt to fill not only a Shane-sized hole on Montreal’s roster but also in the NHL’s heart.
