Summary
It's 1120, and Yusuf and Nicolò are living in Bukhara, having gone into business together copying books. Everything would be perfect, if only Nicolò could get himself to stop pining over Yusuf. But then Nathaniel ibn Isaac, a Jewish physician from Córdoba, comes to them seeking someone to help him complete a manual for an astrolabe plate he's invented. Nicolò enjoys the job, until someone starts making attempts on Nathaniel's life. Now his life, Yusuf and Nicolò's secret, and their corner of the scholarly community in Bukhara are at risk until they can find the would-be killer.
ETA 3/21/23: For folks who were interested in the research for this story, I added a bibliography of things I used that can be found online for free, including links. If sources on medieval Bukhara and astronomy and such seem like your jam, feel free to check chapter 11 out!

The man shakes his head, but then he puts a hand on his chest. “Knee-key,” he says.
“Knee key?” Joe blinks, baffled.
“Knee-key,” the man repeats.
Something clicks in Joe’s brain. “Oh. Ah—” he scrambles for a translation “—you are called Nicky?” he thinks he asks in Italian.
The man’s face brightens. “Si,” he says, then he unleashes a long stream of Italian that Joe doesn’t come close to comprehending.
“Uh, sorry,” Joe says, shaking his head. He shrugs helplessly. “Mi dispiace, no italiano.”
A failed attempt at outdoor recreation leaves Joe stranded in a mountain cabin. Good thing he has company.

Summary
A fine justification. I've heard it so many times before – Displeased by Nicky's words Kozak injects him with a substance which doesn't take full effect until a few weeks after Merrick. And suddenly the team is playing against time because Nicky is getting worse. They have to fight with all their might in order to prevent them from losing their heart forever.
A story about endless love, found family and trusting in fate when all hope seems lost.
