Will can feel Hannibal’s gaze on the side of his face, but he doesn’t look around. He keeps his eyes fixed on the statue, trying to read her expression the way he can read Hannibal’s. Or thinks he can. The statue is good, certainly, skilled, but it doesn’t trigger anything in him. He can’t step inside the sculptor’s head the way he can when the work is made of flesh instead of stone.

One second Ilya Rozanov is flying down the ice with the wind in his hair and the puck in his control, almost certainly on his way to score the tying goal, and the next, he’s crumpling to the ground. He falls, slides limply until his body cracks against the boards, and lies terribly, unnaturally still.
Getting your bell rung by another player is one thing; it happens. Falling limp and heavy to the ice when no one’s even touched you is another thing entirely.

Not his ringleted hair, long and styled like a girl’s (probably as soft as a girl’s, too, if Steve had been brave enough to reach out and touch it, beguiled by the startling clash of soft hair and hard muscle); not his cartoonishly blue eyes. He doesn’t like the way Billy had smiled, through a mouthful of teeth, when he said Steve’s name: Harrington, right? Overly familiar, taking his sweet fucking time with it. Hips cocked like a loaded pistol, a dare, or maybe even a tease; a silent, provocative come try me. Steve has barely two inches on him in terms of height, and he dislikes that most of all.
Or so he tells himself.
