Summary
Greg, broke and burdensome at his mother’s house, is sent to stay with his grandfather for the winter so he can get back on his feet. It’s utterly without excitement until an older businessman flies into town with a deeply coincidental connection to himself, and in the days leading up to Christmas, the two of them seem to be getting followed around.

"Tom always whispers things. Greg isn’t sure how he manages it—Greg’s, like, significantly taller than Tom—but somehow Tom is always finding ways to bend down and mutter something, his breath hot on Greg’s ear. It’s sort of a weird feeling as well, too ticklish for Greg’s taste. He doesn’t think it’s meant to be secretive—mostly it’s the kind of thing Tom does when they’re at a meeting, or a fancy dinner, or sort of any event where Greg might be doing something wrong. Greg is pretty sure that to Tom, that’s most of the time.
