“Hi, my name is Gerard. Uh yeah, I have a drinking problem, um, I guess I’m an alcoholic.” He quickly glanced around the room. Oh god, everyone was looking at him all expectant, he turned his attention to the moderator. She was smiling at him and responded “Hi Gerard. Did you want to share what made you decide to come today?” He still felt like he couldn’t breathe.
Gerard took a beat to formulate his response. He wasn’t willing to share too much about his struggles, he didn’t know any of these people, and he definitely didn’t trust them enough to be honest about what was really going on with him. They'd lose their shit, or have him institutionalized or whatever.
or when Gerard and Frank meet at AA but only one of them actually struggles with AUD.

Gerard is a gay single dad, and Frank is recently divorced and also a dad with a ton of dogs. But it’s the first time Frank has ever been with a guy, and I wanted something sweet about him navigating his feelings and figuring it out.

Summary
As Frank steps into church that day, he can immediately tell that there's something off. That something has happened, something is missing. That does not make the news any easier when the priest steps forward and tells the congregation that overnight the gods have disappeared.
Initially it's the guilt that doesn't make it easy. But then comes the effect of the gods no longer being there to watch over the world. The accidents, the general feeling of being unsafe, the personal battles Frank, and probably many others, face now that they are in this world without their patron.When Ray suggests that they should go looking for Olympus, to return the gods, Frank is skeptical. But he also doesn't want to work now that his patron has left him and so, when the Ways offer up their van and their company to Ray, Frank does join.
