A drunken wedding that was a result of a fight was probably not the healthiest way to start a marriage.
Ilya was sure if everyone knew the truth, there would be plenty of armchair relationship experts who would be quick to label his and Shane’s relationship words such as ‘toxic’ and ‘unhealthy’, but Ilya wouldn’t have it any other way.
Okay, maybe he’d not have had the argument, the hurting each other, the (sad) tears, but for the end result he’d take it all, because the end result was Shane lying on his chest with a ring on his left hand, and that was perfect.

Summary
Yuna and David are probably the most middle-aged people Ilya has ever known. While his mother had seemed so grown up when he was small, he realizes, now that he is approaching the age she was when she died, she was so very young. His father, on the other hand, seemed to have never been young. Ilya sometimes wonders if the man just spawned into the world at 65 years old.
It is weird to think of his in-laws as young, dumb kids, but they were a similar age he and Shane were when they met. Maybe they had even fallen nearly as head over heels for each other as they had.
He nudges his almost asleep husband next to him.
“Whaaaat?” Shane mumbles into his pillow.
Ilya runs his hands through his hair. "Tell me how your parents met.”

It’s not Ilya’s fault that Pork gets out.
Okay, well, maybe a little bit. But it is almost equally Shane’s fault.
The facts are thus: Ilya’s home nursing an injury, and Shane’s on a roadie, and maybe he and Shane have managed to get a little codependent after just one season playing together.
And so, while Ilya was making lunch, he got distracted by his very pretty husband facetiming him from the hotel shower. And perhaps the water evaporated and the noodles caught fire a bit.
And in the chaos of smoke and fire extinguishers and flinging open every window and door in the house – Well. Pork’s always been a bit of an escape artist.
Or: Shane’s horrible hairless cat gets out and Ilya has to hunt down his least favourite child.

Summary
Until Shane was around four years old, he was obsessed with this stuffed animal. A pale blond-ish yellow star his mom had given him when he’d come home from the hospital. Starry had been lost when they moved, in the time when Shane was between three and four, and his Dad had gotten a new job. Shane doesn’t remember it much, but his parents say he was a wreck afterwards, shaking as he sobbed into his mothers arms. His parents had offered to get him a new one, but Shane had stubbornly pouted, claiming that “It wouldn’t be Starry!” before dissolving into another round of tears.
His dad had slid next to him that night, nudging Shane carefully until he was facing the window of their new house. Shane had grumbled, his tears turning to anger rather quickly, but his Dad had opened his curtains and window, making Shane look up onto the clear night and blinking lights ahead of him.
“I know you’re upset about Starry,” he had said, giving Shane’s shoulder a slight squeeze, “but he’s still here, up in the sky twinkling back at you, so don’t ever feel like he’s truly gone. Just look outside and find him.”
