Summary
The world ends. Everyone and everything is gone and because of this, there is nothing left to feed the fears or The Archive. They are starving. So the fears send The Archive back in time through one of the few artifacts that still remain.
Though The Archive doesn't know this. It simply thinks that the entities are finally letting it die. It's very wrong with this assumption as he then wakes up in his eight year old body.

If there was cause for celebration or a challenging case that ended in victory, Kristoph would congratulate the staff and close the office early. He’d do paperwork for an hour before visiting the bakery across the street and returning with two carefully packaged slices of cake. Always two. Because Apollo Justice was like himself when it came to work ethic, which meant Kristoph would undoubtedly find him at his desk long after everyone left.
Following the completion of Vera Misham's trial, Kristoph Gavin sits in his cell and attempts to recoup his losses. Somewhere along the way, he finds himself thinking back to a peculiar ritual he once shared with his ex-protégé.

Summary
Apollo missed the routine. He missed the constant of sorting files and typing up the same few drafts and cleaning barely touched shelves. He missed having a normal job. He missed the certainty of a life lived entirely according to lines on a schedule.
Despite the guilt he felt for all of it, a small part of him missed the silence that came with working for Mr. Gavin.
