Summary
Ilya doesn’t know how to be handled this way. He wants to step back, to chalk it up to Shane Hollander simply being a very nice guy, but he knows this is tenderness, and that’s not what’s between them.
Ilya Rozanov has never belonged to anyone but himself.

Summary
They lapse back into a comfortable silence. Shane looks at Ilya as he is and thinks about Ilya as he was at seventeen, smoking in the back of a Saskatchewan parking lot. The image is almost unbearably tender for Shane, where his own seventeen year old thrill at seeing Ilya Rozanov meets all the things Shane knows about that lonely boy now.
Shane thinks: Do you love number 81 more than you love this man?
"Hey," Ilya says, brushing his knuckles over Shane's cheek. "Whatever I do, I will be there when you come home."
Ilya decides to retire. Shane is very normal about it.

Summary
It feels like he’s holding the entire world inside his heart.
Ilya loves him so much. An impossible, unbelievable amount. It swells inside of him, warm and cozy, like a little pocket of sunlight lodged beneath his ribs.
This love is the most gentle thing Ilya has ever known, and he can’t believe he gets to keep it.
(Or, a perfect afternoon at the cottage.)

Summary
Should he grieve Boston? Probably. Loyalty was important, thank you very much, Yuna Hollander — but perhaps that wasn’t what this situation was. Boston felt like a stopping point for Ilya. Neutral ground, his saving grace, fresh off the plane from Moscow, finally separated from his family by an ocean they couldn’t afford to cross, not without his help. He was grateful to the city, to the Raiders and their fans, truly, deeply, but he owed them nothing.
He owed Shane Hollander everything and more.
(Or, Ilya at the cottage, and his final year in Boston.)
