    The subway is never crammed at this hour much to your slight, fleeting delight (it truly is the small things in life) yet a few people still dot the J train, all attention and focus buried into phones and books respectively, but not you because your phone died an hour before closing, and you don’t think you’ve read a book past the age of about fourteen when it was mandatory for school.

    So when someone ambles through the doors with a giant foam turtle head, wobbling about as he talks loudly into his speakerphone, you’re about the only person on board that takes notice and watches him.

    “Yep–yeah, no, Don, it’s fine.” His words coming out all choppy where the other voice on the line is punching him to the point to argue the point with him. You don’t mean to eavesdrop but they’re practically shouting at each other and you wonder with some degree of annoyance why the kid doesn’t just ditch the mascot head and speak normally.

    It’s far from the strangest sight you’ve seen since you moved to the city, yet still a level of entertaining enough to watch play out before you.
