Summary
He was smiling as he explained his intentions for the schools, and the interviewer, Michael, had been smiling too, asking all the right questions for Bruce to expound on his answers. There was a good rapport between them, and Bruce had let himself relax slightly, his posture easing from the ram-rod straight back he had begun with to something more natural. Michael had smiled, looking down at his notepad, scribbling something with his pen as Bruce had cited lowering youth crime in the Narrows as one of the potential benefits of the schools.
“Do you think this kind of initiative could have prevented the death of your youngest son, Jason?”
It was as if all the air had been sucked out of the room.
“What?” Bruce breathed, his heartbeat pounding in his ears.

Summary
It’s peaceful. It’s nothing like the first time he died.
He’s not in pain anymore. He isn’t listening to the Joker laughing like a madman.
He isn’t whispering Bruce’s name desperately under his breath, praying that the man will get here in time. He doesn’t have to, because Bruce is here with him. He’s here, holding him tightly against his chest and murmuring in his ear that he’s not letting him go again, that he’s going to be okay, that everything is going to be okay.
Jason weakly looks at his brothers for one last time and then curls closer to his father.
Bruce’s gentle voice is the last thing he hears as he takes a shuddering breath in, lets it out and– and…
(or, a universe, where Jason Todd dies again and it destroys Bruce Wayne.)

Summary
“Look, I’m saying it for your sake more than anything. I don’t need you to play big brother with me. I don’t live under Bruce anymore and I’m not that young either.” Jason finally puts into words what he's been wanting to say for months now.
“It’s for my sake, you say?” Dick finally asks and he does not sound angry at all, inquisitive is more like it. He wishes he knew what he was thinking.
“It is not for my sake Jay.” he finally says and smiles sadly. Jason does not understand. “Because there is a small little detail you’re forgetting and that detail changed everything.”
“Oh yeah, and what is that?”
Dick holds his gaze as he says. “You died.”
Takes place after the events of "Everyone hates a tall child" but can be read regardless. Dick learns of the batarang incident.
