Summary
Erwin let out what he knew would be his last battle cry, his muscles tense as he gripped his horse’s reigns with all of the strength he could muster. His eyes locked onto the boulder heading towards him, and as his heart pounded in his ears, he felt the pain of a thousand blades tearing through his flesh. He knew that this was coming as he prepared for the mission, albeit he couldn’t have possibly anticipated the mess of violence that he had had to lead his men into. He could never have thought that that beast would be waiting for them in Shiganshina.

When Levi was first sat down and asked to write his will, he rolled his eyes. “I’ll say it again, dumbass. I have no family. This shit is pointless,” He insisted.
The man didn’t move, although Levi could see his patience wearing thin. “Every soldier that goes beyond the walls is required to have one,” he repeated carefully. “I don’t care who you write it to. I just need words on that piece of paper. And then both of us can get on with our lives.”

It takes weeks for him to realise that Vex visits more often than anyone else. But that’s easily rationalised in one simple step: she doesn’t like the cold. There is a reason beyond camouflage in dappled forest light that she wears near as many layers as he does, and it certainly isn’t considerations of appropriate wardrobe on her part. She can’t sew for toffee, but she darns her socks religiously, almost obsessively, and not even Vax teases her for it. He could not understand the need to darn them so at first, and still wonders at it now. They’ve never hurt for coin, not really, and even if they had they would have scrounged together enough for new socks. Vex’ahlia certainly goes out of her way to ensure that they’re all well equipped, their basic needs met for the road, so he can’t see why she doesn’t buy new socks for herself. Perhaps it’s simply that no one else notices how much she does for them, too busy laughing about how fiercely she haggles with every poor merchant and vendor who is unlucky enough to stumble into her path.
Perhaps it’s just that Percy is far more aware of Vex’ahlia than is prudent or polite to admit.
