You’re worse than a disappointment, you’re…” He’s huffing air through his nostrils, enraged and nearly speechless with it. “You’re…”“Just say it,” she says, her tone dripping exasperation, while inside she’s dying of anticipation. “If we’re not going to do violence to each other, we may as well have it out. What am I, hm?”
His chest is heaving against her back, and she feels him warring with himself.
“Go on, Ben, quit being such a coward! What, are you afraid your mother’s going to show up and wash your mouth out?” He stiffens at this, and is even angrier, knowing she’s been digging around in his mind. “Just say it!”
“You’re a filthy whore!” he shouts.
