"When was the last time you've had these--" Natasha touches a long, still-healing wound that runs ragged from his shoulder down to his back, "--cared for?"
"They don't hurt anymore," he says shortly.
Such is the role of a shielder in battle, Gepard thinks. Draw the attack towards himself as a means of protecting his teammates and keeping them alive. His armor and weapon are sufficient enough to keep him relatively unhurt after every encounter, but sometimes, sometimes they falter.
And just this morning, they did.
"I wouldn't worry about them too much, Miss Natasha," he adds to appease her.
"Too late," Natasha says briskly, moving back to her tray and picking up some things there. "Now that I've seen them, you won't have to deal with your wounds alone any longer."

Pretend the one before you isn’t Jing Yuan, the general you loathe so. Pretend I’m some fortunate stranger, some handsome lad you saw in passing—or even, the apparition in your head, conjured solely for your nights of solitude, the entity no one’s had the honor, the pleasure, of displacing.” It’s terribly selfish and vile, for him to demand such things when the diviner’s swallowed so much of her pride for the sake of realizing her dreams, but—but she’s not the only one with foolish, indulgent dreams.
No, no she isn’t. And perhaps if Jing Yuan squeezes his eyes shut strong enough, he’ll be able to pretend any of this is real, even if only for a sliver of their enormous lifespans. Even if, in the end, these are mere delusions—and they will remain so, for him, even if he inevitably ends up indulging her in her most fervent desire.
(It’s so much easier to express desire when it takes on a different guise, they find.)
