The irony wasn’t lost on him. His fingers were coarse and dirt-worn, hidden only partly beneath a leather glove that had seen too much use. He wasn’t fit to behold a beast, let alone honor one. Yet here it rested, absurdly fragile. He felt as though he was desecrating it.
