Summary

Maomao dropped her gaze. “No, I’ve been researching dragons.”She could tell he was about to start asking more questions, so she barreled on before the words could leave his lips. “I wanted to see if there were any solid accounts regarding anatomy and physiology, since there’s barely any records of dragons here that aren’t just hearsay and folklore. I didn’t find much outside of storybooks, but the differences are fascinating—”
“Maomao,” Jinshi interrupted. “Why were you researching dragon anatomy?”

LN SPOILERS
After the death of Gyoku-ou the western capital uprises. 5 envoys sent to discuss the the conflict really sent to disrupt the royal family slipping a certain 'drug' in the food. Jinshi being a victim of said poisoning maomao 'takes care of him' leading to personal conflict.
