The leaps in logic, the enduring belief in fantasies, the misapprehension of subjects far beyond their years. She can see now that Paul is greatly aggrieved and greatly determined. She does not know what has caused this upset. She studies his traveling supplies and says, "I see. Is that why you've packed us honey cake?"
"Yes!" Her son beams. "There's one slice for me and one slice for you! I think, if we eat slowly, we shall be able to make it last for days."
"They are very generous slices," concedes Jessica. "Have you informed your father of our plans?"
At this mention of his father, Paul's face darkens into a ferocious little scowl. "But it is because of him that we are leaving!"
