There’s no rush or urgency in the way that Gerard places his palm against Frank’s chest and pushes him away. There’s nothing angry, or violent about the action. It’s not a shove, and there’s no enraged screaming. It is simply what it is. A push. A light pressure to Frank’s sternum that forces him to take a single step back.

“Frank, no,” Gerard breathes desperately into Frank’s ear. They’re still impossibly close. Frank is loath to tell Gerard to leave, to stop touching him, but the specifics of their situation are precarious at most generous. Best not to mess with the formula if they can help it. Frank rolls his shoulders in the opposite direction of last time, away from his breathing morphine. It gets the hint and retracts itself, resigning to hovering and wringing its hands nervously. Immediately, Frank is overwhelmed with a whole charcuterie board of different types of pain. He bites down harder on his knuckles and adds one more to the selection. Great.
“Yeah, okay.” He says.
“Really?” Gerard says at the same time that Frank says “Three.”, which is the same time that Brian says “Put the FUCKING CLEAVER DOWN right THE FUCK NOW.”, which is the same time that Mikey brings the cleaver down on Frank’s forearm, right near the elbow. Frank barely has time to react to the initial pain, it happens so fast.

“I am not–” He drops his voice, “We are not doing this here.” Gerard tells him sternly, and Frank nods gravely.
“I wouldn’t dream of it, Father Way.” Frank says with a glimmer in his eyes. “Not the time, nor the place, right?”
Gerard fixes him with a glare. “Right.”

"No, it's fine," Julian said automatically. "But, Garak, is everything all right?"
"Captain Sisko wanted to see me," Garak said—which was so conspicuous a refusal to answer the question Julian had asked that it almost didn't qualify as an evasion. He pulled out the chair opposite Julian, and sat.
"Captain Sisko? Why?"
"Well, apparently," Garak said, "Cardassia has lodged a formal request with the Federation for my extradition."
(Or: Garak has a problem. Julian marries him to fix it. Except that means Julian also has a problem, albeit of a very different kind.)
