Summary
Rudo was having a terrible, horrible, no good, absolutely shit day.
It had all started when Gris, Zanka, and Enjin had gone to town to do some shopping. Enjin had promised Rudo some candy if he agreed to help with the shopping and chores.
Normally, Riyo would help, but she was working with August on some new clothes, so Enjin had asked him.
Rudo had agreed since it was the promise of sweets. He shouldn't have agreed because he ended up getting kidnapped.
So here he was, tied up with Stupid Fucking Jabber in No Man’s Zone

Summary
Without Regto, there was no one to keep Rudo out of trouble. At age nine, he's sent to the Pit for stealing and trespassing. Instead of falling into no man's land, Rudo is found by the Hell Guard near the Kamuatari District. Zanka was born with a bone missing in his right leg, disabling him for life. All he wants to do is prove to people that he's still worth something, even if he has a hard enough time believing it himself. He befriends a retired soldier who teaches him how to fight, but he knows it'll never be enough. Especially when he can't function without his staff to lean on. The last thing he expects is for the mysterious (and possibly feral) Spherite kid to imprint on him like a baby duckling, following him everywhere and drawing way too much attention to the both of them. Together they navigate challenges in a world that insists on underestimating them all while trying to figure out where they belong in it.

And so, with a calmness that borders on arrogance, Zodyl turns around and steps into the portal. Not bothering to look back at the grief-stricken people behind him.
The Cleaners however cannot look away. They do not avert their eyes, not until that portal closes completely and Rudo’s body disappears.
Nobody moves, nobody even breaths. Not until reality starts to sink in.
Rudo is gone.
Enjin just gave him away to the devil.

In which Rudo’s health gradually worsens when his gloves are taken away, much to the despair of the people that love him. So Enjin, in a race against time to save him, will have to take many harsh decisions, including making a deal with Zodyl Typhoon himself.

That’s that, he thinks to himself. I saw the Sphereite. It’s just a kid. Curiosity sated.
Done. Finished. No reason to go back.
Despite these thoughts, Zanka will go back. It’s not for anything in particular. Not even a gut feeling. It’s simply an impulse that he can’t shake. Maybe, possibly, a feeling not entirely dissimilar to guilt.
And he’s probably imagining it, but from where his hands grip his bō, a warmth travels through his perpetually frozen fingers and seeps into his bones and blood, slowly melting up his arms and settling like what he thinks a hug would feel like around his shoulders.
It feels like a reassurance.
That was, technically, the first night Zanka (and Aibō) met Rudo. It depends on who you ask.
OR: Moves are made earlier than they should've. Rudo is dropped from the Sphere at a younger age, Enjin isn't there to find him, and Zanka is presented with knowledge that will forever shift the trajectory of his life and those around him. Maybe that's a good thing.

Summary
It is hard to give Rudo affection without him hissing and scratching at you like a cat, but there is a way that the cleaners learn about. Rudo has an off switch. Not a literal switch per say, but it might as well be. This is how each cleaner finds it.
4 times the cleaners give Rudo head pats and 1 time he asks for them.
