Summary
The year is 1334, and the Librarian at the Chantry of Ceoris has just been murdered by his own gargoyle. Once the crime has been discovered, the gargoyle—Kék—finds herself in a race against time to escape the Chantry before she is apprehended. She is able to find help from an unlikely source, a recently embraced maid named Beatrix. Will Kék be freed from Ceoris without drawing further notice from the Usurpers, or will Beatrix’s kindness come back to haunt them both?
