Kaeya never knew music could sound like that.
Like harsh, cold storm turning into a warm, soft rain that engulfs him like a cloak. He listens to it for the first time as he sits on the floor of Ragnvindr mansion, with a mission, but alone and aching. Diluc plays it for him, small fingers skirting over piano keys.
And as they grow up he plays it again. And again. And again.Diluc plays it when Kaeya realizes with guilt he is starting to enjoy this life.
Diluc plays it when Kaeya realizes he is falling for him, a bullet-speed descend into a dark that's not as scary and howling as he knows it, but a lovely, tender touch.
Diluc plays it for their first kiss too.But when Kaeya hears it with actual rain falling onto his face, the ache in his chest overshadowing the ache in his flesh as he watches drenched fire red hair leave, he thinks he hears it for the last time.
No matter how many rains he lives through, how hard he tries to replicate it with his own trembling fingers, it never sounds the same. It never turns into the warm cloak he desperately craves.
At least not until years, years later. -
