Summary
Groaning, Krista sets the book down on her face and, in the literary darkness, tries to think of nothing.
Just feels the wind passing by, listens to the splashing of the water meeting the shore, the rustling of the leaves overhead, the voices carrying over the lake, the squeaking of bicycle brakes –
Slowly, Krista drags the book down her face to her chest, and tilting her head back, an unknown, upside-down face comes into view, turning away from her bike, dropped into the grass.
Freckles, grayish green eyes, slender shoulders, thin lips bending into a sneer.
“Not that convincing a read?” - her voice is lower than expected.
OR
Krista chills at the lake with friends and meets Ymir.

Summary
“It still doesn’t feel real,” Caitlyn said as they walked. “That the worst is over, that we’re standing on the other side.”
A flock of starlings swept free of the cliffs, and they paused to watch them go. Caitlyn adjusted the shawl again, the same wind that kicked the surface of the water into peaks blowing the hair back from her face. Vi’s breath lodged against her ribs, like a hand over her heart.
“Maybe there is no other side,” Vi said. “Maybe it’s all one thing.”

Summary
A beat thuds from the stereo, so heavy it rattles the coins in the well of the passenger door. The crease deepens in Vi’s cheek until the smile breaks through, and when they’re back on the highway with the wind thundering through the open windows, sun on her skin and her hair cutting across her vision so that Vi comes to her in flashes of white teeth and black glasses, in arms shifting to the sixth gear, her voice full and loose as she sings, Caitlyn stops herself from closing her eyes around the moment because she can already see herself years from now running her thumb over this one like a worn photo from a wallet and she doesn’t want to be there yet, in the future where all of this is behind her — she wants to be here, now and in it, in the possibility that it could go on forever. Like asphalt, like sun.

Summary
The image flashes back from Vi’s memory — Caitlyn lying unconscious on the hospital bed, her head half wrapped with thick bandages, hair still crusted with blood. The tubes in her arms, the smell of disinfectant, the muffled intelligible voices in the background, Vi aching and exhausted sitting by her shoulder to watch her breathe for hours.
Healing is a slow process, inside and out.

Summary
Vi looks at the big clock on the far wall. 7:46AM. She’s one minute late today. Every morning for the past six months - well, every morning Vi’s been on shift, so she’s just assuming about the other days - she’s passed by at exactly 7:45AM, always at a brisk walk, always in a perfectly-tailored suit, not a single long, silky-looking hair out of place.
7:47AM. The crisp clack of heeled boots on concrete pulls Vi out of her musings. There must have been some sort of emergency, because the subject of Vi’s (minor) obsession walks past the fire station at a faster clip than normal. Which is sort of saying something, because Mystery Woman’s got legs for days, long and slender, visibly toned with long, lean muscle through her suit pants. At the faster clip, Vi has less time to admire her ass and tiny, tiny waist as she walks by, but that’s fine, because the view as she leaves is fantastic.

Caitlyn's route to work as a detective at the 51st Precinct takes her right by Fire Station #516, and Vi's been pining after the gorgeous Mystery Woman for six months...what will happen when she finds out that Caitlyn's a cop (AKA: The Enemy)?
