I shouldn’t have left you in the first place.” It felt strange speaking to a stone that couldn’t hear nor answer him, but he forced himself to keep on talking, anyway. “You … I never have shown it, didn’t know how to, or maybe it was just my pride getting in my way. But … God, Avid, how can I even put it into words?”
He looked down at the black rose, his fingers brushing over the thorns and caressing the nearly entirely closed petals.
“You took me completely off-guard. And I don’t know how you did it, but you took my heart when I wasn’t looking—something that I didn’t think possible anymore. And the worst thing about it is, I can’t even be mad at you for it. How can I, when you brought the light back into my heart, when you taught me how to actually, truly care again?” He sighed deeply before he whispered, “My biggest regret is that I didn’t kiss you one more time.”
