Toby partially wondered if this is how it felt to be his father. Self loathing. Sick like a wet dog on cocaine. Maybe that’s why he coughed all the damn time- and why Toby himself hadn’t been doing much better. He moved himself back to a sitting position where he faced the door, and yet still nothing felt real. He hadn’t realized he’d been crying but the taste of salt was bitter and full of his own grief. The fabric that had been in his hand joined in the whirl of distorted world around him and he closed his eyes.
