Summary
This morning, almost two months after the reunion party, I leave the tower before Gale awakes. It isn't the first time—I've made a habit of it since a few days past. I can't tell why I started doing it. I only know that it feels easier this way, almost like … an escape. And the more I reflected upon it, the worse I felt, so I've simply stopped thinking about it. Gale has made no remark.

Láraindil and Gale returns from the reunion party only for Gale to be thrown into his work at the Academy and for the city leadership of Waterdeep.
Unaccustomed to a life without the dangers of their old adventures, Lára struggles to find her place in their marriage and her new city, and is slowly drawing away from Gale to the wilderness outside the city.
A devastating misunderstanding exposes the unaddressed distance between them and threatens to ruin the relationship they fought so hard for.

"We can talk about this after you've sobered up." He offers me a helping hand, but I smack it away with a grunt as I pull myself up from the floor with great difficulty. When I meet his gaze, he stands with his back straight, feet firmly on the floor, with a stoic expression on his face. He is offended. And I am triggered.

After his audience with Mystra at the Stormshore Tabernacle, Gale wants to reforge the Crown of Karsus and claim godhood and Láraindil is having none of it.
Failing to convince him to relinquish the idea, she decides to drink the discomfort away, until Gale finds her and there's nowhere for the angsty, sexual tension to go but through.

His presence feels like a balm to my soul, reminding me of how brave I am to let myself feel the burden of what we've had to go through, and what was yet to come. That I have nothing to be ashamed of. That he loves me.

Láraindil has been doing a great job keeping it together to lead this hopeless group of misfits through the Shadow-Cursed Lands only to be hit with one groundshaking revelation after the other.
As they continue their journey towards Baldur's Gate, the burden starts to weigh heavily on her as she has to come to terms with truth of the Dream Visitor, and the loss of the safe haven she once thought she had.
However, what she has lost within one, she may have gained within another.

In the mean time, her relationship with Gale progresses and she finds out that he talks in his sleep. The truth of his inner world devastates her and she is compelled to bring him comfort.

Summary
This is a series of short stories that deep dives into the romance between Gale and my Tav, Láraindil, in Baldur's Gate 3, starting from Act III. The first three parts are set within the storyline of the game, expanding it. The series ends with a three chapter post-game epilogue. Part II, III and VI contain SPICE.
These stories focus on the internal world of Lára, fleshing out and exploring the Tav character further than what can be seen in the game. There are windows into her relationships with some of the companions, but this series especially dives into her relationship with Gale, as I believe it is the progression of the interpersonal relationships that gives this game its heart and soul, and what truly captivated me.
Láraindil (a combination of the Tolkien Elvish words for Grave Lily) is a female wood half-elf Beast Master Ranger. She's dedicated to the greater good, her impeccable judgment guiding her, and her impressive resourcefulness allowing her to solve just about any problem in the best possible way. However, this competence does not come without its price and she struggles significantly with perfectionism, failure and vulnerability, taking herself perhaps a bit too seriously.
