It starts with flowers.
A bouquet of yellow roses, actual roses, from up on Earth; the kind an Overlord would have to have the right kind of connections to get these days, someone with access to an Asmodean crystal or one of the Goetia’s spells.
The kind that shouldn’t be sitting innocently on Angel’s vanity like this.
Yellow roses. Friendship.
Don’t make him fuckin’ laugh.
There’s a playing card nestled into the stems, Husk’s distinctive cardback design giving him away if he’d even been trying to hide that they’re from him. Angel doubts that he had.
He plucks it out with two fingers, and flips it around.
Two of hearts.
Cornball motherfucker.
Still, Angel can’t help that he sighs about it.
Nobody’s bought him roses in a long, long time.
He’s never known a love without the thorns.
He’s very sure that he never will.

The careful rapping of claws on his door breaks into his thoughts, and Angel huffs a laugh.
Ain’t that just like him.
And a year ago, Angel wouldn’t have believed that he’d tell someone to come in to his unlocked room while he was in his sleep shirt and shorts, mismatched fluffy socks scrunched around his calves, no makeup and hair a mess.
But it’s Husk. So he does.
Coffee and conversation on a rainy morning. Like they're some sort of normal.
